Fall feelings…And enjoying a wonderful weekend!

Falls isn´t officially here yet, but Fall is definitely in the air…

The decorations are out.

The weather is changing slowly…

I had a really wonderful weekend. On Friday evening, we went to a wine festival that´s tucked in the park right by our place. The food was delicious, the smells yummy and the wine delicious.

I revised a bit on Saturday…

My hubby participated in his first 10k race today. It was a lot of fun and I got to take lots of pictures…

The leaves are slowly turning yellow and falling…

We went to “our” restaurant to celebrate, the one where the owner–who is an older lady–knows us and stops by our table to chat a bit.

I am thankful and happy.

How was your weekend?

What I´m reading
I just finished CHILDREN OF LIBERTY by Paullina Simons. I loved her The Bronze Horseman trilogy so I was looking forward to the sequel. While I’m not as enthusiastic (there are times where the pace is a bit problematic in my view, and then the characters weren’t as likable as what I thought they’d be), I’ll still pick up the next one 😉
But now I have the greatest problem of all times, what to read next? I am thinking either an e-ARC (I have ROSE UNDER FIRE waiting for me) or I boutght PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. Tough and very different choices. I think I’m going to go for ROSE UNDER FIRE, so I can put a review before its publication.
What I’m Writing
I’m revising. I’m so scared of finishing this revision or not being able to pull through to what I want to achieve in those pages.
But…I’m still moving forward.
What else I´ve been up to
I worked out.
Yes, you read correctly. I’m working out again. It’s about time.

What inspires me right now

I’m going a bit on a decorating spree these days. Including some stuff for the Fall 🙂

But this quote is now hanging by our front door and every single time I look at it, I smile.

Enjoy the little things…

I can’t wait to check all your posts and see what you’ve been up to 🙂

Books

YA Book Club: Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson…

Picture1This is a copy of a post from July 2012 but since the YA Book Club of the wonderful Tracey  is discussing SECOND CHANCE SUMMER today, I had to repost it 🙂

Did you read this book? Do you participate in “offline” book clubs?

You know when emotions run wild while you´re reading and you´re feeling ALL the feelings?

That was me on Saturday night at 2am. I was supposed to be sleeping. Really, I was supposed to try to beat jetlag but that was impossible to do once I got into that story. I even thought of hiding under the covers with a flashlight or in another room if hubby happened to wake up to tell me I really should sleep because of that jetlag thing. Hubby just doesn´t understand when I cannot put a book down…

Summary from Goodreads: Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.
Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.
As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance—with family, with friends, and with love.

I really really enjoyed Morgan´s debut (yes she doesn´t know we´re on first name basis :D) AMY AND ROGER´s EPIC DETOUR but I loved this one.

Maybe it was because of the family dynamics which were much more present into this book or because Taylor is trying to deal with the illness of her father without really knowing how to or because I came to love the secondary characters so much I wanted to hug them through the pages.

The book includes flashbacks into past summers. Getting a glimpse into Taylor´s life as she was younger such as how her first kiss unfolded was so adorable, cute and at the same time so sad and so hopeful.

The relationship of Taylor and her dad felt real to me, just like the relationship she had with her mother and her siblings. I could hear them and see them. Taylor and her dad made me laugh and made my heart squeeze. So many times in that book, I tried to detach myself but couldn´t because the raw emotions running through me were too real. The gestures Taylor and her dad have for each other, their struggle to find a balance, his reminders to her throughout the book about how much he loves her, the hints she gives him are very powerful.

Taylor and her mom appear to not be as close but she recognizes it is also a result of all the walls she built around herself. I choked up at one thing Taylor says because it just felt so real. Taylor and her siblings pretty much discover each other during the summer and there are parts of this discovery that had me laughing (not too loud because of the sleeping hubby). But at the same time, you wonder just like Taylor if it´s ok to laugh in these moments. And then, there are Henry and Lucy….yes you should dicover yourself about Henry and Lucy. I think we all have a friend like Lucy, the childhood friend who knows you inside and out. And Henry, well…You´ll have to see for yourself.

This book is indeed about family, love, loss, friendship, growing up and about love. After all just like Taylor´s dad explains:

“And I’ve realized that the Beatles got it wrong. Love isn’t all we need—love is all there is.”

Weekly update: I revised a bit less than one chapter. But…I´m so so happy with the way this chapter worked out. Plus, I made the stakes a bit higher and I have one BIG chapter to revise next. it´s going to be a tough one but I think one that will make the reader even more connected to the story.

And now let’s tune in to your regular programming…

What I´m reading
I’ve just started a new book (thanks to Netgalley) called POOR LITTLE DEAD GIRLS. I do find myself analyzing the plot and structure a tad more than usual. Like my writer brain is focusing on the details I might normally overlook because it’s in full revision mode. The start is a bit slow but I’m intrigued and am looking forward to find out more about the story.
What I’m Writing

I revised one chapter this week! Yay! I know it’s less than what I wanted to achieve BUT getting back to my manuscript felt great and I feel like this revision is taking my WiP to a better place.
What else I´ve been up to
Last week, the Chemical Engineer and I were in Tuscany. It was simply gorgeous (see pictures here).
Sunday I celebrated my birthday. My amazing hubby took me out for a great brunch..

Yesterday we celebrated our wedding anniversary…We’ve almost been together for 10 years (married for two) and this is the man I want to grow old with. The one who makes me laugh, think, smile, who challenges me and supports me. My best friend. My love.

The Chemical Engineer and I had a wonderful time in the South of France and in Tuscany, saw gorgeous cities, relaxed, enjoyed a few drinks, a day on the beach, laughed…

And I used my camera. A lot. Here is a selection of pictures.

What´s Up Wednesday? The vacation edition…

What´s up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime and Erin.  It´s a way to keep in touch in just four headings…Except today it´s going to be only one for me.

VACATIONS

There was no reading and no writing.

So  my Ready, Set, Write goal of this week will be to revise two chapters once I´m back home.

I was in the South of France last weekend. Hubby and I got to spend some time with my sisters, their families and go to Saint-Tropez. We are now in Tuscany until the end of this week. We´re having a wonderful time and I´ll share more pictures once back (I´ve been using my camera a lot :P)

I hope you´re all doing well!

Ready Set Write, revising, What´s Up Wednesday

What´s Up Wednesday? And a Ready. Set. Write. The slow progress edition.

Basically another week passed that reminded me prioritization is important and that I love spending time with my husband 🙂 If you’re reading this, hubby, I love you!

What´s up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime and Erin.  It´s a way to keep in touch in just four headings…

What I´m reading
Well…I’m beta reading a WONDERFUL manuscript by Erin. Really, talent runs in this family because both Erin and Jaime are a delight to read. They have different styles but I get so engrossed in their story and their world…loving it.
I’m also reading another non-fiction book, still researching for my novel: THE SOCIOPATH NEXT DOOR by Martha Stout.
What I’m Writing
ready set write button
One step at a time.
Slowly but surely.
All those apply to my revision…and my goal to revise one chapter a week is getting me there. Thanks Ready. Set. Write! for kicking my butt to sit on the chair.
What else I´ve been up to
Re-learning how to prioritize and…looking forward to our vacations.

What inspires me right now

This. If you haven’t seen it yet, Christa’s work is inspiring and I know I want to help raise funds for this.

The rain.

No, really, the fact that the temperatures cooled down is pretty cool 🙂 That was the view from my office yesterday as the wind slammed against the buildings.

Ready Set Write, revising, What´s Up Wednesday

What´s Up Wednesday? And a Ready. Set. Write. The reminder edition.

This week has been busy and not entirely easy…And it has been also a reminder to try to balance things a bit better. So this What´s up Wednesday which comes on a Thursday in my time zone is a bit on the light side. I´ll make sure to do the rounds and cheer you on 🙂

What´s up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime and Erin.  It´s a way to keep in touch in just four headings…

What I´m reading
A non-fiction book. Gasp. It´s a book that my hubby highly recommended and I love discussing with him the different points. And…I think it will help my revision a bit.
THE PSYCHOPATH TEST by Jon Ronson. This book is interesting and disturbing in a way and raises many questions.
What I’m Writing
ready set write button
Still plugging away at my revisions.
I cannot wait to send this manuscript for feedback.
I´ve done one chapter last week and I think that will be my goal for the rest of the summer. It will be slow but steady progress. Revise at least one chapter a week.
What else I´ve been up to
Refocusing a bit and spending time with my husband.

What inspires me right now

This post by Jessica Love. Because she describes perfectly how I feel sometimes…

And many more….

I can’t wait to check all your posts and see what you’ve been up to 🙂
