What is a love list? Honestly, you could do a love list for a whole lot of different things, but this one is about my manuscript. 🙂

Once upon a time, YA Highway (remember, YA Highway?)’s prompt for Road Trip Wednesday was: “What’s on your Work-in-Progress Love List?”

It was a summer day, forever ago (on August 22nd, 2012), when writers around the globe shared their love lists for their own manuscript. I did, too. Even if I did apparently forget.

Full disclosure: I actually remembered Katy Upperman’s love lists (for KISSING MAX HOLDEN which was then called CROSS MY HEART and another book which is full of hearbreak and emotions), which is how I found my way back to Googling YA Highway RTW Love List, re-read Dahlia Adler’s Love List for her manuscript which popped up in my Google search, and then re-found my own from August 2012.

That YA Highway Road Trip Wednesday prompt was based on a guest post by contemporary young adult author  Stephanie Perkins’ for author Natalie Whipple’s blog.

Whenever I begin a new project, I also begin a list called “What I Love About This Story.” I start by writing down those first ideas that sparked the fires of my mind, and then I add more ideas as I discover them during my push through early drafts. I use this list as a touchstone to remind myself during the hard times why my story is worthwhile. It’s easy to forget the GOOD STUFF when I’m wading through the muck, and the end is still months away, and it feels pointless and hopeless to continue. This list becomes a crucial reminder: Yes! This is a story worth telling!

And as I’m about to go back into finishing drafting/revising my current work-in-progress, I feel like writing down this manuscript’s love list (in addition to my Pinterest board) will be helpful.

This is my first adult rom-com and I’ve only been sharing snippets of it with my critique partners.

So, here we go.

💕Love List 💕

Second chance romance.
Bucket Lists.
Lace. And tule. And wedding dresses.
Vintage clothing.
Old Bay.
Swans’ Cove.
Maryland Eastern Shore Little Town.
Holiday season.
Laughter.
Animal shelter.
Hockey.
Therapy.
Ice rink.
Self-confidence.
Therapy.
Friendships.
Giggles.
The sweet smell of cinammon apple pie baking in the oven.
The flavor of Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon.
The sound of the waves.
Family dinners.
Support.
Chemistry.
Scenes full of sexy moments…including sizzling sexy moments and laughing sexy moments and full-of-emotions sexy moments.
and so much more ;-)…

Do you have a love list for your manuscript? Or maybe for your job? Or your day? Don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments. 🙂

revising, writing

One word at a time…

I posted this on Instagram this morning. A little Motivation Wednesday if you will. And it’s stayed with me all day. I am looking forward to adding words to my manuscript. I am gathering them in my mind right now.

I am writing this post from our desktop under the sleeping eye of Bobbie Voltaire The Cat. My laptop’s keyboard is still writing its own story and I can’t really write on it. I did order a new one and it should arrive tomorrow, after some delay. I managed to download Scrivener to the desktop despite the wireless card being a bit problematic so I am gearing up to write. And I am very much looking forward to writing the chapters I’ve unlocked in my last writing session.

Today, I also wrote other words…not manuscript words, but newsletter words. As you probably know I have a newsletter and Mailchimp gives me data on the percentage of people opening said-newsletters. Sometimes newsletters end in spam or maybe my subject lines are not appealing enough or maybe people get busy. And it is important to make sure subscribers are still interested in the news I send. From a business perspective, deleting subscribers who are no longer interested mean I may pay less monthly for Mailchimp 🙂 and from a personal perspective, it’s nice to see higher open-rated on my newsletters….

I’m also working on the back-end of previously published books to keep them updated.

And I just wrote those words.

One word a time.

What are you currently writing or thinking about writing?

Ready Set Write, revising, What´s Up Wednesday

What´s Up Wednesday? The <3 edition…

Another blog post from the hotel…:) What´s up Wednesday is the brainchild of Jaime and Erin.  It´s a way to keep in touch in just four headings…

I am about to start BLEED LIKE ME by Christa Desir. I bought it on release day and I think I´ll be curling up with it today 🙂
What I’m Writing
ALWAYS SECOND BEST – I shared an exclusive sneak peek yesterday during ONE DREAM´S ONLY´s release day party on Facebook. It´s dual POV and I´m loving it 🙂
Emilia Always Second Best
What else I´ve been up to
I released ONE DREAM ONLY yesterday and had a wonderful release day party on Facebook!
And as always I am amazed and grateful for everyone who’s supported me, tweeted about it, sent me emails. Really, thank you!
Thank you!

What works for me

Writing sprints.

I used to write in the train when I  had about 30 minutes to get the words in…and it worked. So now, I try to do writing sprints on Twitter and see how many words I can get in…Maybe when we´re settled in a house, I might change my routine but for now it works…

I can’t wait to check all your posts and see what you’ve been up to 🙂

Ready Set Write, revising

Ready, Set, Write #RSW2014 – Every word counts…

RSWtealpolaroidWelcome back to Ready. Set. WRITE! If you’re wondering what RSW is all about, it’s a summer long writing intensive with the purpose of writing, revising, planning, and keeping each other accountable. We will be sharing our goals on Mondays, keeping our posts BRIEF (2-3 lines per heading) so we can spend more time on writing and less time on blogging. You can sign up at any of the host blogs (Alison‘s,Katy‘s, Erin‘s, Jaime’s) every Monday. And don’t forget to hop around to encourage other participants. For more info about RSW and a link to their super fun buttons, go here.

HOW I DID ON LAST WEEK’S GOALS

Better than the week before, but I’m still not there.

* I revised 1/2 chapter of DADDY´S LITTLE GIRL

* Added about 1750 words to ONE DREAM ONLY

MY GOAL(S) FOR THIS WEEK

* Revise 2 chapters of DADDY´S LITTLE GIRL

* Write 5000 words of ONE DREAM ONLY – the prequel novella of One, Two, Three.

A FAVORITE LINE FROM MY STORY OR ONE WORD/PHRASE THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED

Norman Bates…

Very rough…but here’s a line (ok two sentences) from my YA thriller:

People in our little Texan town love pageants as much as Norman Bates loved his mother in Psycho. Totally unhealthy obsession.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED THIS WEEK

I think this one is going to be my main challenge this month: Making the time to write. I’ve been very busy at work and with some other things.

SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP

About the prequel novella that I’m writing: writing about moments that were just hinted upon in One, Two, Three. Seeing those moments stretched out and fleshed out actually make me love One, Two, Three even more 🙂

HOW I DID ON LAST WEEK’S GOALS
Not so great. Actually, hmm, not so great at all. Clearly, I need to get typing.

MY GOAL(S) FOR THIS WEEK

* Revise 2 chapters of DADDY´S LITTLE GIRL

* Write 5000 words of ONLY ONE DREAM – the prequel novella of One, Two, Three.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED THIS WEEK
Making the time to write. I’ve been very busy at work and with some other things.

SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP

The way I already know Natalya. Writing about her life before One, Two, Three is like spending time with a very good friend I haven’t seen in what feels like forever, but we fall right back to where we were 🙂

I didn’t have any 🙂

MY GOAL(S) FOR THIS WEEK
* Revise 4 chapters of DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL…it’s back to revising in the train for me this week.

SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP

Getting to know Erin, my main character. She didn’t have it easy: her father terrorized their little Texan community, killing many teenagers before “disappearing” and she’s the one who helped the police realize he was responsible. Now, she’s trying very hard to stay strong, to blend in and to make sure everyone forgets she was “Daddy’s little girl.” She’s a fan of old movies and was hand picked to participate in beauty pageants. Looking forward to adding extra layers to her personality during this revision round.

What I´m reading

Still beta reading and still loving it.

What I’m Writing

I´m working on perfecting one very emotional (and key) scene in ONE, TWO, THREE…and it´s tough.
But…once I have this one down, the rest will be much easier.

What else I´ve been up to

As explained on Friday, my great-aunt passed away and it´s been difficult.I spent a few days in France to be with my family. While it was not easy, it was also good to be home and to be with my family.
And…preparing my cover reveal. Different topic, yes, but I find that focusing on a goal close to my heart and what I want to achieve is definitely helpful in times like these.

3DCoverXBT2

My cover will be revealed on April 8th and you can be part of the fun by signing up here. Xpresso Book Tours is organizing the reveal and let me tell you, Giselle has been very helpful and answers emails SUPER fast 🙂

I seriously cannot wait for you all to see it.

It´s gorgeous and fits the story oh so well! Derek Murphy  really captured it and working on the cover with him has been great!

What inspires me right now

My parents. My husband. My family. ❤

I can’t wait to check all your posts and see what you’ve been up to 🙂

What I´m reading

I’m beta reading TWO amazing manuscripts. Did I mention they were AMAZING?
I’m one lucky reader, let me tell you!

What I’m Writing

I’ve received my notes from my editor and am currently incorporating some changes. I’m pretty much excited now about ALL my scenes. I’m not saying they’re easy to polish. Some of them are HARD, but falling in love all over again with your story is priceless.
Here’s a part I shared on Twitter. I love this scene!

What else I´ve been up to

Jogging with the hubby. Helps balancing everything.
Jogging
Enjoying the unofficial beginning of Spring.
Spring
Creating my UNNAMED but YET AWESOME Team. Really, so thankful for the ladies who joined. And yes, I already shared some super duper secret information with them, as well as a very awkward video 😛

What inspires me right now

The amazing ladies who have joined my team already and all the support I keep on receiving during this adventure ❤

My cover. My designer sent me samples which I shared with my team and I think we all agree on THE ONE. It captures the heart of my story so much, it’s amazing. And I love it. And I can’t believe it.

And Christa. Yes, I know Christa is a constant inspiration (despite her not realizing it) but this week, she announced something extra special. I know I´ll be buying a few more copies to donate.

This is what she said:

“I’m going to give all the income I make from Fault Line book sales during Lent to the Voices and Faces Project in order to help fund more testimonial writing workshops for survivors.”

I can’t wait to check all your posts and see what you’ve been up to 🙂

What I´m reading

And I´m really enjoying it!

What I’m Writing

I’m still revising my YA thriller and drafting my YA contemporary romance novel. I´ve been sick a bit so unfortunately this had an impact on my productivity, but I think I can catch up to my weekly goals.
What else I´ve been up to
The Chemical Engineer–aka my amazing husband–organized a Valentine´s Day weekend. By the Rhine. In a gorgeous hotel. With yummy food.
And fun excursions just the two of us.
Basically, it was amazing!

What inspires me right now

So many things…but I´ll focus on this quote

(even though I posted it last week on my brand new Facebook page :-))

This conversation with my husband. I think it might deserve an entire post at some point. He´s very encouraging and was mainly joking but it got me thinking, hence future post

And this wonderful wonderful package received on Monday.

I can’t wait to check all your posts and see what you’ve been up to 🙂
