Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that encourages goal-setting and accountability, and provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at with our writing projects—planning, drafting, revising, or polishing. This year, your RSW hosts are Alison Miller, Jaime Morrow, Erin Funk, Katy Upperman and myself. (For the detailed information about RSW, including the wonderful buttons created by the lovely Jaime, click here)
And don’t forget, if you’re on Twitter, we check and cheer each other on using #RSWrite
1. How I did on last week’s goals.
Revise A SUMMER LIKE NO OTHER and send it to my copy-editor–> DONE!Outline ALWAYS SECOND BEST (I have about 30000 words, but they’re in need of rewrite and reorganization since I finished A SUMMER LIKE NO OTHER) –> Progress.Write 5000 words in ALWAYS SECOND BEST–> Nope. I’ve had a hard time getting back into a writing groove but I now know where my story is going so I need to sit my butt in the chair. And write.Spend at least one hour per day on business matters–> DONE!Run 3 times a week and do strength training at least twice this week–> ALMOST! I ran twice and did strength training 2 times.
2. My goal(s) for this week.
- Write 20000 words. Yes, I’m shooting high but I need to finish drafting this book in the next three weeks. And the beauty of having written A SUMMER LIKE NO OTHER? I already know my characters very very well.
- Spend at least an hour each day doing business things.
- Publish a blog post on Tuesday about self-publishing (my experience with Freebooksy and some of the ads I have planned for release week)
- Enjoy my cover reveal day on Thursday
- Run 3 times this week and do strength training at least twice.
3. A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised.
“You deserve everything,” Nick says.
4. The biggest challenge I faced this week (ex. finding time to write).
Getting back into a writing groove after working so hard on my revisions.
5. Something I love about my WiP.
Spending more time with Em & Nick.

Congratulations with all your successes (and near-successes, though when it comes to exercise I think anything is a success) and I am in awe of your goals for this week! Good luck with your cover reveal (I too love that your goal is to enjoy it *grins* ), and I’ll be cheering you on for your phenomenal writing goal!
And that excerpt iso tantalising… a great choice of line that really makes me want to find out more!
SO excited to see this cover! And you can write that 20K – I have all the faith! Hope you have a wonderful week, Elodie. Enjoy your time with Em and Nick!
Yay for cover reveal week! So excited for you, lady! You know where to find me if you want company writing that 20K. Totally cheering you on!
Switching between editing and writing can be hard. Yay for the upcoming cover reveal! Can’t wait to see it!
Oh wow! 20K!? Does that mean you’ll be around for writing sprints this week?
I love cover reveals, can’t wait to see it! Good luck this week, you can do it!
Wow, 20,000 words is an intense goal, but it sounds like you have a plan! Good luck, and congrats on the cover reveal! 🙂
Congrats on sending in your draft to your copy editor!! I love the relief that comes with checking off something that big from a to-do list ;). 20k!! I’m so impressed right now–cheering you on! 🙂
Looking forward to your cover reveal, Elodie! I hear you on trying to switch gears from revising to drafting. I’m kind of straddling that line right now because my revision is now calling for the addition of new scenes. Eek! Here’s hoping we can both get into that groove this week. Even so, you did really well meeting your goals this past week. Hope this upcoming week is equally productive!
Cover reveal and 20k words–busy week! It sounds like you can swing it. Go go go!
Go go go, Elodie! You can totally get that 20k down! I’ve been having trouble getting back into a writing groove too, so I totally get that. I hope you have a huge flood of inspiration and words this week. Cheering you on! 🙂
20k this week? Good luck! Have a great cover reveal day, I’ll be sure to stop by and check it out!
Holy word count! Hope your cover reveal goes well, can’t wait to check it out. Good luck on your 20K this week!! 🙂
That is a goal with a capital G. But you can do it! If you need nighttime writing company, I’ll be around! And I’m so excited for the cover reveal!
You can totally make 20K in a week, with enough motivation and lack of distractions. Some folks claim to win NaNo on the first day, so doing under half that amount over seven days instead of only one is entirely doable.
Aw, I love your excerpt. So sweet. 🙂 I can relate about getting back into the writing groove after revising. Last week and this week, I’m in an almost purely re-reading groove. I am really going to have a hard time knuckling down after this! Ugh! Good luck on your 20k this week. I’m sending you good vibes. 🙂
I find it hard to switch back to writing after revising. It’s such a different mind set. You’ll be able to get it done though.
Awesome job this week! I definitely understand the struggle to get back into a writing groove after revisions. Revisions are all about amping up the inner critic and drafting is all about telling that same inner critic to shut the hell up so you can get some work done! Good luck on the 20K goal. I hope you have lots of snack! ❤
Thanks so much Courtney! 🙂 I do have lots of snacks and am trying to organize my time to make those 20k happen 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

Your goals are always so boom boom boom, neat and organized and crossed through! Great job. And can’t wait to read more from you!!
Whoa! 20,000! That’s crazy, but you can do it! Especially given how much you kicked butt on last week’s goals!
