Happy Friday #12: A magical number and other stories…

Yay! It´s time again for Happy Friday!

Looking forward to knowing what made YOU smile this week!

100 blog followers: WOW! 😀 Thank YOU all so much for following my blog, your comments and your support. You, ladies and gentlemen, are WONDERFUL! I’d like to throw a proper party, you know one where we can chit chat about books, YA lit crushes, Stephen King’s ON WRITING  around a glas of red wine but I’m already really thankful for the fact that we can share those moments in the virtual world!

A little something something:  I’ve received a small package  from the Society of Children´s Book Writers and Illustrators. And before continuing, please tell me I´m not the only one who just thought about this movie/scene when reading (or in my case writing) the word “package”.

GIFSoup (Legally Blonde, Bend and Snap)

I´m really the only one? ok then 😀 moving on….I joined SCBWI last month and already had a fantastic lunch with other writers in the area and yesterday, I received my official membership card and some other goodies.

I am so excited about being part of this and I promise myself that I will go to the next SCBWI conference in NYC – anybody already thinking about it for 2013?

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE: I finished this book this week and luckily I could dive right away into A MILLION SUNS because I just could not wait to know more about Elder and Amy. I love the story, the concept and I can´t believe I´m saying this but the way Beth Revis can make me feel claustrophobic as if I was on the ship with them is incredible!

Blog comments: I am trying a new way to respond to comments on my blog – by replying directly to the email notification I receive when somebody adds their thoughts to one of my posts and I add the email of that person if he/she doesn´t have a wordpress blog since if she/he does have one, he/she gets a little notification when coming onto wordpress.com. If you´ve been receiving these emails from me, hope it´s ok 😀 I just enjoy being able to answer and knowing the person actually can see what I wrote back to them

A to Z challenge: I am not doing it this round but can I just say I am loving the fact that a lot of you are? Lots of great posts to read!

Rock the drop: I haven´t done it either…but I really think it’s an AMAZING way to spread “book love” and your stories are very funny/inspiring! YA Confidential will feature some of them on Saturday… Can’t wait to see the pictures 😀

So tell me, what made YOU smile this week?

  1. Congratulations on hitting 100 followers! Here’s to the next 100! 🙂 I’m enjoying the A to Z Challenge and meeting new bloggers. And the biggest thing that’s made me smile this week is the fact that today’s the official excerpt release day for my first novel, ORACLE! Releasing the 500-word teaser means that I’m one step close to publication day! Yay! 🙂

    1. Thank you 😀 and CONGRATS! You´ve got indeed very exciting news to smile about 😀 I´m very very happy for you!

  2. Wooo!! Congratulations on 100 followers! Of course, I’m surprised you don’t have many more, Elodie. Soon, I’m sure. 🙂 I’m curious to know how you are tracking the number of followers you now we WordPress people don’t have Google Friend Connect?

    1. Thanks Colin 😀 This 100 came from the ones subscribed via email or via wordpress – I think I have about 20 more followers on Google Reader but I´m not sure if they´re the same or not (I follow wordpress blogs for example on both :D)…I am probably going to add a Google + button to make it easier for those using Google reader…:D

  3. Your blog posts always make me smile! 🙂 And I’m going to the SCBWI conference in NYC next January!! Let’s have wine and discuss those YA lit boys we love. Oh, and other more serious topics of course.

    1. Awww! Thanks Sara 😀 We should totally have wine and discuss all those things in January….So excited about this! 😀

  4. Congrats on the 100 followers, Elodie 🙂 I noticed that I was getting email comments from you this week, and I think it’s fantastic! I don’t often have time to go back and see if my comments have replies on all the blogs that I leave comments, so this is extremely handy.

Haha! That animated gif is the ‘bend and snap’ from Legally Blonde. Too funny 🙂

I sooooo want to go to the SCBWI conference in NYC January 2013. I might have to start putting aside money now, though, because those things aren’t cheap. It would be wonderful to finally meet some of you guys in person!

    1. Thank you very much Jaime 😀 And I´m glad you like the emails/reply comments! I also noticed that I don´t always know if people replied to my comments on their blogs so I thought it could be a good way to keep the discussion going….

The Legally Blonde movie cracks me up and that “bend & snap” gif just put a big grin on my face and totally fit my thoughts when I typed about the SCBWI…Talking about SCBWI, you should totally come! I am also starting to put money aside for it and it´d be really awesome to meet you in person and chit chat about books and writing 😀

  5. Congratulations on getting 100 followers! Soon it will be 200! 🙂

That’s nice that you joined the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. It really is a treasure to belong to an organization where you can talk to other writers and be involved in the writing world. I belong to both the local Writer’s Guild and The Writer’s Union of Canada. I’ve been able to meet other authors and was asked to speak at the Guild’s 30th anniversary celebration on the history of YA fiction in this province. It was quite an honour because there are so many other established writers here that might be more qualified.

Hope you have a great time at the conference! 🙂

      1. It was very flattering. I’ll have to wait to see how it turns out. The Symposium is being held mid-May. I’m rather nervous about talking to colleagues. I think it’s easier when talking to kids! 🙂

  6. Congrats on 100 followers! What a milestone!

Something that made me smile this week (other than my family, of course!) are all of the fabulous blogs I’ve visited thanks to the A-Z Challenge, and all of the kind and gracious commenters who’ve visited my blog. It’s been a great month so far!

    1. Thanks Katy 😀 I have to say I am still amazed by the fact that 100 people subscribed to my blog 😀 The A to Z challenge really seems like lots of fun! I´m glad you found some interesting blogs in the process!

  7. Congrats on 100 followers! So cool that ACROSS THE UNIVERSE made you feel claustrophobic thanks to great writing. DIVERGENT gave me vertigo in some of the scenes with heights. 🙂

    1. Thank you Rebecca 😀 ACROSS THE UNIVERSE was really amazing on so many levels but this claustrophobic feeling creeped me out in a good way 😀 DIVERGENT was also quite impressive in that way, I wonder how INSURGENT will make us feel 😀

    1. It was really great! And I loved loved loved the sequel! 😀 Now I simply cannot wait for book 3 to come out – January 2013 seems far far away! Would love to know your thoughts on it once you read it!

  8. Congrats on your 100 followers! That’s an awesome milestone. I really want to start going to conferences and meeting folks in person–SCBWI seems like the one to hit. And–I’m sorry, I’m legally obligated to say this, or Mayor Bloomberg will impose a tax on my blog–there is no better city than NYC! Very exciting…

    1. Hahahah 😀 Your comment on Bloomberg cracked me up! 😀 I love NYC, really do…It´s one of our stops on our honeymoon. SCBWI conferences really do sound amazing! 😀

  9. Just had to share what made me smile this week:

A woman came into my workplace on Friday, obviously upset by something. She told me she had just come from a similar business and the salesman there had verbally assaulted her (due to her race). It was painful to hear, but after talking to her I was able to put a smile on her face. Which put a huge one on mine.

  10. Um…YOU just made me smile. :D!
I love your bubbly blogs. I also love that you’re a part of SCBWI! I’m a member, too, although I’ve done really nothing with said membership other than let my brain devour the publications. Maybe during the summer I’ll reach out and network a bit. And I do like the responses I get in my inbox from you. They also make me smile. 🙂

Hope you are having a lovely weekend!
