I have a confession to make. Psssh….come closer, I don´t want everybody to hear…
I have not written a word since the plane ride to the US in May. I have not read a novel while being away either (I just read SECOND CHANCE SUMMER on Saturday though, more on this tomorrow :D) I did attend Teen Author Carnival which was truly inspiring but didn´t write.
No writing and no reading. It feels weird. My fingers want to get onto my story but it somehow seems like a mountain to climb when you have not done any exercise or have not walked in forever.
I feel like Bambi trying to walk on ice…
Uncertain, wondering but trying and trying again…
So many things to do in the next month for work and scratching my head trying to figure out how I was doing it before my holidays or how others manage 😀
But…I am looking forward to take little steps towards my goals. I read on a blog recently (I need to take notes when I do) that small goals and rewards are good when we´re writing and I tend to agree. We sometimes forget to celebrate the milestones, take into account the small steps it took us to achieve something.
So here are some of my writing goals for June:
- Incorporate/reflect Jaime´s comments & suggestions into my WiP
- Send one chapter to Jaime for her feedback (thanks again, I really appreciate it!)
- Write at least two chapters of WiP above
- Re-read PLAYING WITH FIRE (again) and set up the last schedule of revisions (I need to send this baby off to my beta readers :D)
- Write a flash fiction for Christa 😀 Well, for her “This One Time At Band Camp…” gig
So tell me, what are your goals for June or how do you regroup after a long break?
Good luck with your June goals. I’ve kind of given up on the month. There’s so much other stuff to be done, I have to wait until summer holidays – and I’m still trying to get back into my WIP. 🙂
Thanks 😀 Good luck with June, hope you get all of that other stuff done!
I will tell you how I regroup after I get back from my vacation in a few weeks. 🙂
Good for you for setting small goals. I think you’ll find that once you start writing again, it will just come. It’s just getting started. Getting past all the thinking about writing and actually doing it. 🙂 You’ll rediscover how wonderful it feels and no one will be able to stop you! 🙂 haha.
Looking forward to know how you do it Kelley 😀 I think you´re right about getting past thinking about the writing and actually do it will indeed be the trick 😀
Good luck with all of your goals Elodie! You can do it!
I’m having a bit of a struggle right now, with the end of the year and losing my job and everything. I haven’t written in awhile and I don’t know how I’ll get started once all my work stuff is wrapped up next week. I’m feeling a lot like Bambi myself.
Thanks Jess! Big hugs to you, I am sure you will also learn to ice skate again soon!
I totally understand the whole ‘not writing while on vacation and then trying to get back into it again’ thing. Been there. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your WiP, but whenever is best for you. I know things must be crazy busy right now adjusting to work and all that.
My goals for June: 1) read & critique more of your WiP, 2) continue revising my WiP and incorporating your suggestions, and 3) getting to at least one more classic this month. Those should all be manageable! 🙂
How did you get back into it? I read my WiP this morning and I liked it. A lot. I mean there were things which I need to better and change but I really did like it. And it scared me a bit. Like how am I going to be able to go on that way? weird, I am telling you, weird.
I am so looking forward to reading more of YOUR WiP 😀 It is one of those things that definitely makes me very happy. So, please don´t hesitate to send some chapters my way! 😀
So glad you had such a great trip! It is so good to just walk away from it sometimes. Your June goals sound great, and much more ambitious than Bambi! I had to work on my goals pretty hard all week (first week back from my trip) but I feel more in the swing of things the second week back. Welcome home!
Thanks! Well you know Bambi also took it one step at a time…it all depends on the final goal 😀 Glad to hear that you´re getting into the swings of things again, I am glad you had such a good time on your trip!
I so know that feeling! It’s hard to get back into it after a break! The only thing that works for me is plowing ahead. Even when it is SO FREAKING HARD. Best of luck with your goals!
My June goals are to finish this round of revisions by the 15th, then go on vacation for a week, then film a book trailer. 🙂
Book trailer!!!! That sounds amazingly scary duper exciting 😀 Thanks for the encouraging words Peggy!
In the couple of months before I got married, I didn’t write or read much either. There was just too much to do! So it’s totally understandable. Good luck with your goals this month! Now that you’re back, I’m sure you’ll be able to get it done.
Thanks for the encouraging words Ghenet 😀 I do appreciate the vote of confidence…and as you know I found a new reading groove. Did I mention recently how much I loved IF I STAY and WHERE SHE WENT? 😀
