The magic of a kiss

Today is Road Trip Wednesday 🙂 RTW is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway’s contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody’s unique take on the topic.

This week’s topic: A long-awaited kiss, a surprise ending, a character’s sudden decision…  these are the moments that make us smile, gasp, and LOVE a book for the rest of our lives.
What is your favorite literary moment?

So many moments come back to my mind from my decades of reading. Some excerpts from Albert Camus and Victor Hugo which made me think so hard. Some theater plays which got a strong reaction out of me. Some thrillers who got me jumping out of my seat when I heard a noise. Some historical fiction which made me dream I was in another time. Some novels which got me turning the pages so fast because I just wanted to know what would happen next…

However, if I had to pick one and only one  favorite literary moment (arrrghhhhh I don’t like playing favorites :D), it would be the anticipation to the long-awaited kisses and the magical moment when the kisses actually happen.

The butterflies before lips meet either tentatively or with force. Those moments where I turn the page and my own body reacts: my stomach flips, my muscles tense because I wonder what may happen.  Yep, done well, those get me every single time…

So tell me, what is your favorite literary moment?

  1. Maybe it’s a guy thing, but I’m very picky about kissing scenes in books. Often they make me feel like I’m intruding on a private moment (which, essentially, I am–I mean, it’s not like the characters invited me to watch, I’m just there!). But there are a couple that made me smile. One of which was Harry and Ginny’s first kiss–in the book, not the movie. It was so spontaneous, and yet we knew it was coming. Very well done. 🙂

  2. I do love romance in books, so it surprised me that those specific moments didn’t pop into my mind that much for my post on this today…I do feel that same anticipation with the kiss though…so wonderful.

  3. I love romantic scenes in books, and they’re probably my all-time favourite literary moments. I went with something totally weird for mine today 😀

    1. I loved your post for this one 😀 (well I kind of always really like your posts :D)
I just enjoy those romantic scenes so much, sometimes I think I may be weird 😀

  4. I agree with you – I think those first kiss moments are definitely the best! Especially if the characters have really grown/struggled through something and FINALLY get together. 🙂

    1. So many of them 😀 It´s hard to choose…I know my favorite anticipation to the first kiss was in Anna & The French Kiss and their first kiss was pretty amazing as well 😀

  5. When I was a teenager I was a sucker of L J Smith’s Night World series. Not so much a fan now but I remember squeeing and gushing whenever the soulmates first kissed, especially the ones who started off with clashing personalities.

  6. Ah, yes! I love your moment! Hm… If I had to pick a different one…. I guess the moment when everyone decides that maybe they can win– defeat the antagonist in whatever form he/she/it takes, and then they rally together. 🙂

  7. I agree. Those anticipated kisses are so AMAZING when they come to fruition. I think my favorite moments come from HG – although it could be because HG has been on my mind 24/7!

    1. I cannot wait to go see the movie – I´m going next weekend 😀 (yay!!!)
I think I just enjoy feeling the same butterflies as the characters…such a wonderful feeling!

  8. Ooo, tough question. I love a good kiss, too! I wish I knew how many times I read Edward and Bella’s first kiss (yeah, I’m one of those Twilight people). However, I think my favorite literary moment was in Persuasion, when Anne received Captain Wentworth’s letter professing his love. OMG. I still get butterflies in my stomach when I think about it! ❤

  9. Great song choice, and some great moment choices, too! I have to say, the Ginny-Harry kiss, the Ron-Hermione first kiss were beautiful. Oh, and Tris and Four’s first kiss.
