The week-end was very relaxing, we did not do much, enjoyed some good movies, good food and good wine. I started reading and finished The DUFF (hard to put down), took care of some Christmas gifts, joined YAlitchat, I worked on my novel a bit and I…signed up for a Twitter account.
It is a scary but exhilarating dive. I did not realize how much there was going on this little bird, how many aspiring and established writers, avid readers hang out in this alternate universe. There is a lot of interaction (much more than what I thought), interesting, thought-provoking tweets…
It´s an entire new way of communicating which I need to become more familiar with and I am still learning how to actually use it. I feel like a baby elephant in a porcelain shop and I have to ensure I do not spend too much time on it (especially arguing to myself “this is related to my writing so it counts as writing time” :-)). But so far: I´m loving it…
Do you use Twitter? Any tips for a beginner? What is your experience with it?

Bit of a novice myself, but I do believe it can complement a blog and help to build a profile. I also like to use it to share articles I read that I like because the link shows up on my blog page. Using hash tags also helps to narrow down interested groups like #bookreview etc.

I’ve been on twitter for a few months, and STILL feel like a novice! I think that maybe I just don’t think in tweets. But I have had some fun conversations!
I am discovering this new world and I have to say I´m liking it 🙂 I am still testing the waters but I´m looking forward to the fun conversations!
I just started Tweeting also! It’s very addictive. I’ve already gleaned some insights from all the lit agents I’m following.

I’ve been tweeting for a fair while and, although I’m no expert, I’ve picked up a few things. One of the most important things you can do while on Twitter is to vary your tweets. If you post a lot of links, break it up with some updates about your day. If you talk about yourself a lot, retweet some other people or strike up a conversation. Also, hashtags are the king. I use #amwriting a lot when I’m updating about writing or sometimes sharing a blog post I think other writers could use.
