Happy Friday #24 – The Chemical Engineer CAN beta read! and other stories…

Yay, it´s time for Happy Friday 😀 Looking forward to know what made you smile this week!

Don´t forget you can enter my giveaway for a SIGNED copy of MY LIFE NEXT DOOR by Huntley Fitzpatrick (see interview with Huntley and details here) You have until today 12pm (EST). I will reveal the winners on Sunday!

My husband can beta read: So The Chemical Engineer doesn’t read. Really. He doesn’t. Except maybe sometimes non-fiction books. And he likes audiobooks (again non-fiction though). However, I did tell him he would have to read MY books. Long story short, I am now reading my draft to him. And…he does have some helpful feedback. Now you have to understand, taking feedback from my husband is not the easiest thing (we might be a tad argumentative) but he has a totally different perspective. Plus he also said: “Your book sounds like a real book”. In his mouth, it is a BIG compliment 😀

So between Jaime’s wonderful suggestions and his, I feel quite lucky. Sending it to beta-readers soon still feels unreal though 😀 (and totally scary)

The Chemical Engineer

New shiny ideas: I didn’t write in the train this week, I read. But I did have my little notebook with me to write down any ideas which come to my mind. One of them seems to have taken residence in my mind and the plot is slowly starting to develop. Exciting!

So, tell me, what made you smile this week?

    1. 😀 He is quite great 😀 Hope last week was not too tough for your and that you had a lovely weekend after being out most of the week!

  1. What made me smile this week? Watching PERSUASION for the fifty millionth time. I love that movie! 🙂 I’m calling it research for the WiP I’m currently working on.

I haven’t been brave enough to show my hubby my sci-fi WiP yet. I’m so worried what he’ll think. O_O So you are WAY braver than I am!

    1. I NEED to watch PERSUASION. I haven’t yet! So far the experience with my hubby listening to my book has been going pretty well. He does give interesting feedback 😀

I can’t wait for you to read the entire product again after I’m done with this round of beta reading/revising 😀

    1. Hahahaha Your comment on spelling totally made me crack up because he definitely can NOT spell 😛

  2. Aww, yay! Yeah, Mr, S asked if he would get to read what I’m working on next year–my response was, “Probably not for A WHILE.” Good for you being so brave and good for him getting into it!

    1. 😀 Well t was not easy because he usually doesn’t read/listen to that type of stories at all 😀 But he’s been quite helpful and again his comment telling me it sounds like a real book just makes me smile every single time I think about it 😛 and the fact that you think so to is YAY! 😀

  3. Gah, three hours late on the giveaway! Curses!

Yay for husbands as beta readers! Mine read my latest book, and it was just the boost of confidence I needed.

    1. Husbands are great sometimes 😀 (okay most of the times :P)! I’m glad yours gave you the boost of confidence you needed 😀

  4. Good for the Chemical Engineer! My hubby read the very first novel I ever wrote and when he had some questions, I got so defensive, he stopped reading my stuff. I’ve tried to get him to read more of it, but he says he doesn’t want me to get mad at him if he doesn’t like it! After the criticism I got from my first writer’s group, my skin has toughened so much. It may still sting, but I am much more willing to accept the constructive criticism, but Hubby still won’t read my books. I am glad yours is more willing to keep ‘reading’ your work and that you can have discussions about it. 🙂

Comments put a smile on my face :-)
