My WiP drives me insane and keeps me sane (and other writerly truths)

This sign now hangs over our computer…

Not too long ago, Katy Upperman wrote a post entitled My WiP is Making Me Fat (& other writerly truths). I loved this post so much, that I decided to make the same type of list.

My WiP drives me insane and keeps me sane. This revision is draining me out and is going sooo slowly. Sometimes, I want to hide away from it  but mostly the entire process keeps me sane. It gives me an outlet, a way to express myself and get lost.

I always feel like my English isn’t good enough…As it’s my second language, I freak out about the small things and second guess myself. All. The. Time.

A few years ago, I posted my first query for my first manuscript on AbsoluteWrite without having researched much. And thought it had to be great. I’ve learned a lot since then.

I want people to fall in love with my characters.

I want to move people with my words.

I daydream about having more time to write.

I don’t outline. But I think I should learn how to do it.

I write in the train during my commute and sometimes wake up at 4.45am to get more writing in.

Sometimes, I ponder about my publishing road, i.e. what would be the best for me?

Not many people know about my writing.

I have the most talented writer friends. Really. They’re amazing.

My writer friends help me stay grounded.

My husband believes in me and encourages my writing. I am so thankful for him.

What are your writerly truths?

  1. moi, Lolo, j’admire les gens qui sont capables d’aligner des pages et des pages sans se … lasser bonne journée bisous

  2. Great list! And if and when I write my list, so many of these will be on mine! More than anything this one: “I want people to fall in love with my characters.” :)

Have a great week! I hope you find lots of time to revise!

    • Thanks Alison! Ive revised a bit today and I think Im moving forward. I also may have found something to strengthen the beginning even more. Ill have to ask you what you think of my idea :) Cant wait to read your list if/when you do it :)

  3. You are my hero for waking up before 5 to find more time to write. That kind of dedication is so inspiring. In fact, this whole list is!

    • :P I do go to bed quite early though :) Hope youre having a great day Rebecca. Your cover is ADORABLE!

  4. I love these lists!

Having read your last manuscript, I can say that you shouldn’t doubt your English at all. I’m so impressed that you write in a language that isn’t your first. I studied Spanish in school and the idea of writing a novel in that language sounds very intimidating.

Good luck with your revision. Don’t worry about how slowly it’s going – just keep pushing forward!

    • Awwww thanks Ghenet! Ill keep your advice in mind and try not to worry about how slow its going! :-)

      How are you doing?

  5. This is a great list, Elodie! I think you’re aspiring to achieve many worthy goals through your writing, and I’m sure that passion will show in your stories. I should really make a list like this too, because my WIP is driving me insane lately as well. Hang in there with the revisions! :)

    • Thank you so much Erin! But you need to power through your WiP so I can read the rest of the story! Which reminds me I am awful at sending you the rest of my feedback…I’ll get on it this weekend!

  6. Oh Elodie, this was fun to read. :-) It’s cleansing to share like this, isn’t it? I think that if I was a writer I wouldn’t outline either, but I imagine it could be very helpful, ha ha! Also, my reader/internship life has been dubbed “Kari’s Secret Life” by a friend who knows what I do, but knows that I’m not super open about it with EVERYONE. Is it the same kind of thing with you?

Keep on trucking! I think one thing’s for sure: you’ve got to keep writing and keep writing and keep writing! :-)

    • Thanks Kari :) And Kari’s Secret Life sounds like a cool movie title :P Your adventures in the publishing world…tadadadada Some of my friends know but my colleagues mostly don’t and like it you I’m not open about it with everyone…
